Ooty, formally known as Udagamandalam is a town and a region in the Nilgiris region of the Indian province of Tamil Nadu.
Omkareshwara Temple Coorg– Omkareshwara temple in Coorg (built in 1820) overlooks a water tank and is located on outskirts of Madikeri, represents a mix of Islamic and Gothic style of architecture.
Abbey Falls– Abbey Falls are a set of waterfalls located at 8 kms from Madikeri One has to walk through plantations to access this. A popular tourist visit place.
Dubare Elephant Camp– Dubare elephant camp is set across the Cauvery river (A short boat ride required to access) near Kushalnagar. Here guests arrive for an elephant interaction (Bathing an elephant is most enjoyable for kids and adults) and enjoy elephant ride & coracle ride. There is a full day elephant interaction program guest can opt for or just it can be just a visit.
Cauvery Nisargdhama– Cauvery Nisargadhama is a 64 acre nature park having animals in its nature habitat and is visited as a picnic spot. Elephant rides and feeding deers are an attraction for kids.
Ooty Lake– Ooty Lake is spread over 60 acres offers boating to tourists and is a major attraction.
Ooty Botanical Gardens– The Botanical Garden is spread over 22-acres and is in existence since the mid-1800s. A flower show is held every May. The Gardens have around a thousand species of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, and herbal and bonsai plants.
Government Rose Garden– The Government rose garden is one of the largest rose gardens in India with more than 20,000 varieties of roses
Wax Museum– A wax museum on Ooty Coonoor road that houses life-size wax statues of Indian personalities.
Raj Bhawan Ooty– Raj Bhawan Ooty is the summer residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Gardens here consist of ornamental gardens in an area of about 9 acres, a rich lawn on 3 acres, four rosaries, two lily ponds, a sunken garden, two greenhouses, a vegetable garden, and a nursery.
Doddabetta Peak– A viewpoint surrounded by dense shola forests from where one can have a panoramic view of the area.
Thunder World – Looking for some fun activities to do around Ooty? Head to Thunder World, one of the famous Ooty places, also known as Dinosaur Park, located at North Lake Road, near the Ooty bus stand. Famous for the Haunted House, Jurassic Jungle, Vortex ride, and much more, this is one place that will be loved by kids in all age groups. This amusement park features a lot of dinosaur models that come with light and sound effects. This place combines themes like horror, technology, and history to give you a unique experience. Do not miss the Camera Museum, 5D theatre, and the Rain Forest when you’re here. There’s an indoor showroom and a food court as well.
Pykara Lake– The Pykara Lake formed after a dam was constructed on the Pykara river. There are two waterfalls over 50 meters in height that is popularly known as Pykara falls and are major tourist attractions. En route one also stops over at Shooting point, a point where many movies were shot in past.
Mysore Palace – The second most famous attraction in India, the first being the Taj Mahal, Mysore Palace is easily one of the most imposing architectural buildings in the country. It is amazing that the palace was only built in the 20th century and is the fourth structure to be constructed in the same location. The Palace is a spectacle that comes every evening when it is lit with approximately 97,000 lights.
Jaganmohan Palace– Jaganmohan Palace is a palace in Mysore (1861) and was initially used by the Wodeyars, kings of Mysore as their home before the grand Mysore Palace came up. It is now converted into an art gallery and a function hall. The art gallery contains one of the largest collections of artifacts in South India (2000+). Some of the paintings are those by Raja Ravi Varma. Paintings different Indian styles of painting such as Mysore, Mughal, and Shantiniketan.
St Philomenas Church– St. Philomena’s church in Mysore was constructed in 1936 using a Neo-Gothic style and its architecture was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. It still remains a tourist attraction.
Chamundeshwari Temple– The Chamundeshwari Temple is an ancient Devi temple (12th – 17th Century) located on the top of Chamundi Hills. The temple is impressive from an architectural sense and considered a pilgrimage destination is considered one of the 18 main Shaktipeetha temples.
Railway Museum – Experience a very different kind of museum visit as you walk into the rail museum, one of the most visited places to visit in Mysore. Close to the city railway station in Mysore, this museum is the second one of its kind after the first one in New Delhi.
Brindavan Garden – The Brindavan Gardens have located just a level below the Krishna Raja Sagara dam. It is a major tourist attraction for all the Mysore and KRS dam visitors. It is also regarded as one of the most beautiful gardens in the state of Karnataka. The most popular and exciting experience at this garden is the musical fountain that is scheduled in the evenings Being one of its kind; Brindavan Garden attracts tourists from across the world.
